Om Nom Nom…Sandwiches
November 18, 2010
The Lady’s work friend, Katie, has opened a food cart at a la carts food pavilion located at 4926 SE Division, Portland (behind Barely Worn).
The City of Portland has a huge Food Cart Culture. There are literally thousands of food carts throughout the city with more pavilions popping up weekly. Food carts offer quality food in every craved cuisine from simple comfort food to Thai to Peruvian to Greek to Bar-B-Que. If you love to eat it; you can usually find a food cart that serves it (including one on Belmont that serves escargot for $6.50).
Katie and her business partner decided to keep it simple and offer a small menu of five different sandwiches. The bread is baked in the cart; the aioli is made by Katie and all the ingredients are fresh and high quality. They slice the meat to order and every sandwich is made when ordered.
The Man, who is ever-evolving, was reluctant to eat at a food cart… memories of carts in downtown Los Angeles in the 50s were probably dancing in his head… but The Lady persuaded him to go with her to check out Katie’s cart. The Man was pleased to see an Italian choice on the menu and that’s just what he ordered: Salami, Mortadella, Sopressata, provolone, an olive salad/spread that is also made on the premises with butter leaf lettuce, onion and basil aioli on toasted focaccia. You know what happens; the same thing that always happens when The Man eats good food… yep, he swooned and pronounced the sandwich the best Italian he had ever eaten…
The Lady chose the Club which included turkey, ham, bacon, butter leaf lettuce, onion, tomato, aioli, stone ground mustard on a delicious rustic white bread. Also delicious, although The Lady was… well… more Lady-like and didn’t swoon…
The other three choices on the menu are Chicken salad on Ciabatta; Turkey (also on ciabatta) and a Portabella Mushroom Sandwich with roasted red bell pepper, chevre and avocado.
Each sandwich is $6.00; a terrific price, especially for size and quality.
The Lady gives Om Nom Nom 4 Paws out of 4 Paws (cause that’s all I’ve got to lend her…)
There are about a dozen other food carts at this location that offer Bar-B-Que, Vegetarian and even Elk and Bison Burgers… The Fondue Cart wasn’t open but you can rest assured The Lady will return to check it out at a later date…
